Virginia Jeanette Christian, 93, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020, at her home in Gaylord.  She was born on March 8, 1927, to Earl and Elizabeth (Floyd) Lamerand in Detroit, Michigan.

Virginia was a very generous person who would give you the shirt off her back.  In 1979, she received a Certificate of Appreciation from Community Family Children Services, Ministry for the Aging.  In 1984, Virginia single-handedly started and ran a home rental business.  Even with running her rental business, she still found time to help others, and in 1990, she was recognized for her volunteer work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  Throughout her life, she found time to help over 100 foster children.  Virginia had an abundance of love and compassion in her heart, but what she loved most was caring for animals.  She helped establish the Otsego County Animal Shelter, along with caring for numerous rescue animals.

Virginia is survived by her children, Alan (Peggy) Christian, Mike (Bev) Christian, Barb (Bob) Dodge, Tommy Hill, and Robert (Sue) Jones; daughter-in-law, Kay Duncan; brother, Ron (Lillian) Lamerand; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and good friend and caregiver, Gary Lewis.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Allan “Jim” Christian, sons; Norm Duncan and Randy Christian.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Animal Shelter.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.
