Viola Mae” Vi” Davis, 85, of Elmira, passed away peacefully at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, Monday, July 6, 2020.

Vi was born January 13, 1935.  She married George Davis on December 24, 1952.  They enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

One of Vi’s first jobs was picking potatoes for local farmers.  She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s appliance business. Vi also worked for the Gaylord School District at Elmira Elementary, in the kitchen, and retired after 24 years.

Vi was a generous person with a great sense of humor.  She loved a good joke, parties, and was competitive in playing cards, including Rummy 500 and Euchre.  She and her husband were given separate handheld poker games because they weren’t good at sharing.

She enjoyed puzzles, Sudoku, bingo, and going to casinos.  She loved gardening and was proud of her peonies. Canning, and sewing clothes for family and friends was a large part of her life.  She enjoyed giving and receiving gifts and would sneak-a-peek at gifts around the holidays.

She is survived by her children, Julie Sevenski, Sharon (Don) Hopp, Cindy (Dale) Larson, Edward Davis, Christine Kowalski, Doreen (Richard) Ostrander, Henry (Ronda) Davis; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Davis, son, George W. Davis; sons-in-law, Lawrence Sevenski and Darryl Kowalski; parents, Thomas and Frankie Muma; siblings, Alberta Treece, Nina Treece, Lula Bell Sevenski, Edna Florenski, Willard Muma, Judy McPherson, and Clara Wingo.

Her family and friends have numerous cherished memories of Vi and are much the richer for it.  She will always be loved and deeply missed.

The family thanks Grandvue Medical Care Facility for their special care.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

  2. You always knew how to bring a smile to my day. My most precious memories involve helping you in your garden, especially during strawberry season. You leave behind a truly amazing, compassionate and loving family, and I pray that their hearts are eased even as your soul is saved.
