Richard H. Conkright, 88, of Gaylord, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

He was born May 14, 1932, to Thomas and Nina (Hetrick) Conkright.

Richard and Rita married August 24, 1974, and enjoyed 46 years of marriage.

Richard was enlisted in the Air Force for 21 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sargent.  After serving his country he started building and helped to establish Shanty Creek Resort with his craftsmanship.  He was known to have a great sense of humor and was quite an entertainer amongst friends.  Richard was a chaplain for the Elks and was quick to share his kindness with others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patsy; stepson, Herbert.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rita; daughters, Marge Black of Peru, Indiana, Joanne (Alan) LeFleur of Kokomo, Indiana; stepchildren, Katherine (George Wolf) Henderson of Sparr, MI, David Henderson of Tulsa, OK, Mary Jodette Briley of Jamestown, NC; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; step daughter-in-law Vicky Henderson; sisters, Joan Locke of Petoskey, MI and Marcella Jockwig of Pontiac, MI; long time family friend Barb Blanzy of Gaylord, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 11, 2020, at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Dementia (Alzheimer’s Association), 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601, COPD (American Lung Association) 55 W Wacker Dr., Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601, or Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.

    I will miss my friend, who was known to me as, a father figure. His nickname -we shared together was called – ‘Wounded Warrior’/ for we shared being veterans in Uncle Sam’s arms -of -service…
    He will be dearly Missed☹️
