William “Bill” Scott Recor, age 45, of Gaylord, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

Bill was born on June 8, 1972 in Gaylord to Kenneth and Ann (Pelkey) Recor. One of four siblings, Bill grew up with a great love and appreciation for family. When he was young, he was in the Troop 1 Boy Scouts of Gaylord and finished there as a Life Scout. Fresh out of high school, Bill started Superior Drywall and Insulation, and he owned the business for over 25 years. On July 31, 1999, Bill married the love of his life, Brenda Hager. In his spare time, he was involved with Whitetails Unlimited and enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors… hunting, fishing, camping, and bringing along his many nieces and nephews to teach them the same. He loved to laugh and joke, and could always be counted on to be the life of the party. Above all, though, Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends, and they will all miss him greatly.

Bill is survived by his wife of 18 years, Brenda; mother Ann; brothers Gordon (Carol) Pelkey, Kevin (Carol) Pelkey, and Ken (Sara) Recor; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog, Pepper.

He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; and parents-in-law Terry and Earlene (Hendrickson) Hager.

Services will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 11am.

A time for visitation will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home on Monday, February 26, from 5 to 8pm. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 10am until the time of service.

Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734. Friends and family may leave condolences online at nelsonsfuneralhome.com.

  1. I’m saddened to hear that Bill passed away. He was one of the nicest respectful guys I ever met. I always told him he could call me Gene, but he insisted in calling me Mr. Greenacre and that’s something I’ll never forget. I really enjoyed him going with my son and I on the Charlevoix fishing tournament this past summer and us joining him at the Whitetails Unlimited Banquet last week. My condolences go to Brenda and the Recor family. He will be missed. RIP “Mr. Recor”

We had the great pleasure of meeting Bill through his love for the outdoors. I’ll miss getting his texts asking if I am seeing any Big ones. I’ll miss your visits to the property. It was always a pleasure visiting with you. Our condolences go out to Brenda, the Recor Family and Bill’s Friends. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Brenda and family, Our hearts are filled with sadness as you go through this unexpected time of loss. We may have lost touch over the years, but our memories are always here. Bill was an amazing man who lived each day as if it were his last. He always filled a room with his laughter and smiles. Even though his time on Earth was taken from us to soon, just know his Legacy still lives on. He will be missed by so many people. R.I.P Bill, go rest high on that mountain. I’m sure the rivers will never run dry, nor the woods be empty. Reunite with all your loved ones who left before you. May God wrap his arms around Brenda and everyone left behind to mourn the loss of such an amazing guy!

  4. These words of deepest sympathy are sent with the hope that as time goes by, cherished memories will help bring you inner peace, and help make your loved one seem still very close to your heart. May these memories that mean so much live forever in your heart. Please keep Jesus promise at John5:28,29: in heart when he said “all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out.”

  5. We would like to express our deepest sympathy. May all your good memories out weigh your sadness during this difficult time.
