Carla J. VanDeKerchove, age 48, became an angel on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at her family cabin, the place of her first and last date.

She was born in Morenci, MI, to Catherine and Charles Carncross. She was the youngest of five children. She felt her life began on April 7, 1990, when she married her United States Marine husband Rich VanDeKerchove. She was blessed with three children, all boys– Nickolas, Hunter, and Luke. She was involved in multiple school activities, and was extremely proud of her work with Robotics Team 2246 – The Army of the Sum. She was a person that anyone could turn to for help and not be turned away. She had a caring and loving heart for all living things. She was a caregiver for her disabled veteran husband, her mother with dementia, and stepfather with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; sons Nickolas, Hunter, and Luke; father Charles Carncross; siblings Andrew (Karen) Carncross, Tom Carpenter, Janet Gordon, Ruth Kapnick, and Clark (Thelma) Carncross; parents-in-law Dan and Donna Kucharek; sisters-in-law Danielle and Bobby-Joe Kucharek; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carla is preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Kapnick; stepfather, Ernie Kapnick; niece, Stephanie Carncross; and step-brother Jeff Kapnick.

A memorial service and interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Vanderbilt, MI on Saturday, June 9 at 2pm. Following the service, friends and family are invited to a dinner party in celebration of Carla’s life at the Corwith Township Hall in Vanderbilt, MI. The family wishes for those who are able to join them for dinner, music, and dancing.

Donations in Carla’s memory may be made to the family for future designation, courtesy of the Nelson Funeral Home.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
