Gwendolyn Marie Tibbetts (née Sewell) passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on December 16, 2017.

Gwen was born on August 2, 1923 on her family’s farm in Sparr and she was one of 14 children born to Charlie and Tillie Sewell. She cherished the years spent with her parents and siblings. Most fond memories she often shared of playing music with her dad, cooking and sewing with her mom, berry-picking and many other chores and adventures shared with her siblings on the farm.

Many of the things she learned in childhood she practiced and loved all the days of her life. A more talented and hardworking person would be hard to find. Gwen was an avid quilter, china painter, musician, berry picker, gardener and homemaker extraordinaire! No grass grew under her feet, and every waking moment was spent doing something, either her chores or making someone else’s life easier and more beautiful. Giving the beautiful gifts that she made with her hands was her most heartfelt pleasure and her giving, caring, loving soul will be greatly missed but will live on through those lives she so richly blessed.

Gwen is survived by daughter, Delores Allen of Florida; three grandchildren, David (Debbie) Snyder of Kalkaska, Lorie (Steve) Stacey of Fife Lake; and Fern Snyder of Florida; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice Cockerill of Texas, Harley Sewell of Gaylord, Melvin Sewell of Florida, Joyce Wolf of Gaylord, and Kenneth Sewell of Gaylord; and special step-daughter, Gaytha Montgomery of Massachusetts. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lois Williams, husbands Floyd Fosburg and Tom Tibbetts, son-in-law Jerry Allen and siblings: Leamon, Addie, Warren, Virginia, Loris, Floyd, Ira, and Eunice.

Special thanks to her friend Doug Platt (and Linda) for going above and beyond, Joyce, Dee, Lynn, all friends at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church, the staff of The Brook, Hospice of Michigan, and all those special people that greatly enriched Gwen’s long and bountiful life.

Services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord on Monday, December 18 at noon. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the time of service.

In memory of Gwen, please love your family and show kindness whenever you can.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI, 49734.
