Nicholas Philip Thaxton, age of 34 of Gaylord, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018.
Nick was born in Gaylord on December 6, 1983 to Edward and Corazon (Fuentes) Thaxton. The youngest of eleven children, he grew up with a deep love and appreciation for his family and friends. Nick was absolutely a selfless free spirit, and he loved the outdoors—hiking and camping, especially. In his youth, he enjoyed playing soccer and hockey and continued to enjoy the sports years later. Nick loved to go on spontaneous road trips and concerts, and he had a passion for his guitar and for music… and the occasional cheap beer. He was also very committed to his job as a computer tech at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Above all, though, Nick loved his children, and they were always number one in his life.
Nick is survived by his children, Nicholas Landen, Bryton Ward, and Lydia Valerie-Ann; parents Edward and Corazon Thaxton; siblings Gary, Colleen, Timothy, Tamera, Daniel, Patrick, Rita, Elissa, Edward, Jr., and Christopher; uncle Bill and aunt Dewell; dear friends Amy and Ryan Bradfield, Ben and Jessica Rau, and Carolyn and Romeo Buclay; and his beloved dog, Oscar.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
Donations in Nick’s memory may be made to his children (checks payable to Cora Thaxton). Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

As I read through the messages, I know one thing for sure … Nick made a mark! He mattered and he will be missed. This means that you have done an excellent job – raising an amazing man.
Now love is going to take you on the journey that is grief. This journey has no map and is yours alone, there is no end to the journey, but love will be with you all along the journey … let it be your guide and don’t be afraid to let love flow down your cheeks or out your mouth as you laugh as you remember a silly memory. Love is a good guide. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Nick was the best stepdad there could be, he was always there for us kids even when we were mean to him. He loved all of his kids even if we weren’t his biological child. He cared for us, I loved him so much. I really don’t know what I’m going to do with out him in this world. Rest In Peace dad ❤️😭💔

Dear Thaxton family,
I have had the privilege of working with Nick for the last 10 years at OMH in Radiology and I.T. He was my on-call partner in Radiology, and my go-to guy in I.T. My heart is broken thinking of his entire family.

Cora, Ed, family, Nick’s kids and friends, just learned of Nick’s passing. There are no words, children should not die before their parents, but they do. That is the most horrific thing that could and can happen to any parent. I remember his smiling face from when I worked at OMH and I can see from all the posts he was very loved, will be missed by many and never forgotten. May God tightly wrap his arms around all who his short life touched and help you relive all the wonderful days and moments shared with Nick, giving you some peace (and maybe even a smiling memory) during this most difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and in the days, months and years ahead. God bless.
Dear Cora and Ed, I am so sorry about Nick. You are in my prayers. Love you guys, wish I could be with you at this time. Miss and love you both.Pat B.
