Susan Lyk

Susan Lyk, age 61, of Lutz, FL, passed away on April 8, 2021.

Susan was born in the small town of Gaylord, MI, to Jack and May (Banham) Ames, five days before the birth of her future husband, Edward Lyk.  The two grew up only a few blocks from each other and became friends at an early age.

Susan was a graduate of Gaylord High School. She married Edward Lyk in 1979, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy.  During this time, they had three children: Elizabeth, Lyssa, and Peter Adam. Their son Adam only survived nine months, due to a heart defect.

Susan enjoyed being a mother and caring for her children. She was a strong woman who took care of her children and household alone, during her husband’s long deployments at sea. Her other passions were plants and gardening. She also loved nature and being outdoors.

Susan was preceded in death by her son, Peter Adam Lyk and her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Lyk of Lutz, FL; her children, Elizabeth Lyk and Lyssa Lyk; her siblings, Marjorie (David) Lee of Naples, FL, Steve (Jackie) Ames of Gaylord, MI, Greg (Mary) Ames of Phoenix, AZ, John Ames of Las Cruces, NM, Ken (Laura) Ames of Gaylord, MI, and Cathy (Jim) Grenke of Gaylord, MI.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, MI. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest near her son, at St. Thomas Cemetery in Elmira, MI following the funeral service.
