Penelope M. “Penny” Smith of Waters, MI and Wildwood, FL passed away Friday, May 12, 2017. She was 69.
Penny was born on July 15, 1947 in Detroit, MI. She was a Catholic, and had been wintering in Wildwood, Florida since 2010. Penny was very creative and loved sewing, the Arts and wood burning.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Bob; children, Paul & Lisa Smith of Gaylord, MI, Joseph Smith of Waters, MI and Timothy & Shelly Smith of Traverse City, MI; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord on Wednesday, May 24 at 11am. Visitation will be held at Nelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 23 from 4 to 8pm with a Rosary service at 7. There will also be a visitation period on Wednesday at St. Mary Cathedral beginning at 10am and lasting until the time of service.
Memorial contributions in memory of Penny may be made to the family for future designation. Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

The worlds going to be a little less sweet, a little less kind, and a little less gentle from now on because I’ve lost one of the sweetest friends I’ve ever known.
Penny was a kind soul and the best friend a person could ever have. She was a friend you could laugh with, share your secrets with, and you could be yourself with. She never judged you, she saw you as you wish you were and not the way you really were and liked you anyway. There aren’t many things in life as wonderful as having had a friend like Penny and I will miss her dearly!
