Shirley Helene (Musolff) Davis, age 98, of Gaylord, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023.

She was born on November 27, 1924, to Edward John and Ella Helena (Minehart) Musolff, in Northville, Michigan.

Shirley graduated from Northville High School in the summer of 1942, before continuing her education at University of Michigan where she obtained a teaching degree.

Shirley was lucky enough to marry her childhood sweetheart, Richard Davis, and together they raised three children.

While Richard was fighting for our country in the Pacific Theater before they were married, Shirley worked as a science teacher and also helped the war efforts at Michigan Seamless Tube in South Lyon.

She enjoyed spending as much time with her family as she could and was dedicated to her role as a mother. She was the definition of a homemaker.

Among many things, Shirley loved to cook, travel, and walk along the beaches of Florida and Michigan picking up seashells. She could often be found with many various animals and always kept the birds, raccoons, and many furry visitors well-fed.

Shirley is survived by her children, Richard (Lauren), Kim (Kathleen), and Jeff (Rachel); grandchildren, Kelly, Eddie, Kyle, Lauren, Paige, Lindsay, Frances, Sophie, John, Justin, Jarad, and Eryka; and many loving great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Richard; and her granddaughter, Alison.

At this time, her family has chosen to remember her privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Shirley’s honor to the Humane Society .(link provided)

Arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI, 49734.

My deepest condolences hearing of Shirleys passing. She was a delightful person and someone I dearly enjoyed spending time with over the years. May she find eternal peace.

  2. It’s been a pleasure to know Shirley-at least 50 years. I worked for her for about 20 years and always loved her kind words and conversational ability. She loved living at the lake and enjoyed sharing wildlife stories Shirley and Dick Davis were a very loving couple Martha and I are both saddened to hear of her passing . Looking forward to the fulfillment of Revelation 21:3,4-a beautiful time for the earth
