Shane McCleave, a man known for his giving nature and for never knowing a stranger, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on March 20, 2024, at the age of 54, after succumbing to a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Shane was born on July 25, 1969, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, to John Lyle Clark and Glenda Joyce Clark.

Shane’s life could be characterized by his dedication to his family, his passion for life, and his memorable stories. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and tubing the rivers. He enjoyed racing cars (his way of legally driving fast!), tinkering in the garage, working on cars, and cruising on his motorcycle. Shane had a strong passion for life and was ready to pursue any adventure that came his way. He was a kid at heart and loved to have fun! He was the cornerstone of his family, providing unwavering support, love, and endless entertainment. Above all, he was an amazing son, brother, dad, papa, husband, and friend. If he were part of your life, your life would be better because of it.

Shane is survived by his cherished family members, Annette, his wife of 34 years; five children, Amber McCleave, Shannon (Travis) Brandow, Shane (Tyler) McCleave, Jr., Anna (Brian) McCleave, and Devin Horton. Shane’s legacy will continue through his eight grandchildren, Melody, Casey, Layla, Piper, Liam, Colt, Maverick, and Amonni, all of whom were adored. Also surviving is his mother, Glenda Clark; two brothers, Jerry (Stacey) McCleave and Mike (Angie) McCleave; and his one and only sister, Shelley (Eric) Hubbard. Shane also has many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family and friends, so dear to him.

Shane was preceded in death by his father, John Lyle Clark; his uncle, Larry Clark, who always held a special place in Shane’s heart; his best friend and canine companion, Gizmo; and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members.

Honoring Shane’s wishes, a memorial service will take place on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Nelsons Funeral Home (135 N. Center Ave., Gaylord, MI, 49735) at Noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the memorial, the burial will take place at 2:00 p.m., at Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling, MI.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelsons Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.
