Rickey Hooper

Rickey Lee Hooper, age 69 of Gaylord passed away on April 23, 2023.  He was born on June 15, 1953 to Robert and Audrey (Curtis) Hooper in Flint, MI.  On April 6, 1985 he married Cheryl (Estes) Hooper and they just celebrated 38 wonderful years together.  Rickey and Cheri moved to Gaylord in September of 1995 and he went to work for Mark One.  He loved his job and chose not to retire.  Rick and Cheri were members of Grace Baptist Church of Gaylord for 28 years.  Rick served as a bus captain, an usher, sang in the choir, and headed up the Sunshine Ministry (a ministry for people with special needs).  He was also known as the “Candy Man” because every Sunday night if you shook his hand, you got a piece of candy.

 Rick is survived by his wife, Cheri; daughters Elisa Reynolds and Destiny Hooper; son Chris Hooper; grandchildren, Austin Hooper, Elizabeth Hooper, Nataly Hooper, and Karley Gobel; great-grandchildren April Ordille and Javius Hooper;  many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace Baptist Church in Gaylord.

The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church on Friday (April 28) from 10:00 a.m. until time of services

  1. Uncle Rick will be dearly missed. He was such a wonderful kind hearted man. Uncle Rick helped anyone who needed it and was here for anyone who needed someone. I love you Uncle Rick. RIP
