Nellie Mae Wojtkowiak, age 91, of Gaylord, Michigan, passed away on February 6, 2022.

Nellie was born in Silverwood, Michigan, on December 26, 1930, the daughter of Clyde and Nettie (Bohac) Ayers. She was a 1949 graduate of Gaylord High School.

On October 1, 1949, she married her sweetheart, Raymond Wojtkowiak. Nellie worked at Standard Products in Gaylord for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and St. Mary Altar Rosary Society. Her hobbies were limited, but she enjoyed traveling and trips to the casino. She was a big advocate of the Michigan Library for the Blind and spent countless hours listening to their audiobooks. The most important things in Nellie’s life were her family, her faith, and her friends.

She is survived by her children, David (Ann) Wojtkowiak of Las Vegas, NV, Sharon (Thomas) Lewandowski of Gaylord, Mikel (Shaunna Bradford) Wojtkowiak of Traverse City, Daniel (Elizabeth) Wojtkowiak of Edgewater, FL, and Debra and Fay Wojtkowiak both of Gaylord; her grandchildren, Matthew (Heather) Lewandowski, Sarah (Aaron Kaleas) Lewandowski, Cory Wojtkowiak, Mary Frances Wojtkowiak, Erik (Susanna) Wojtkowiak, Justin (Eileen Krumm) Wojtkowiak, Missy Titlow, Kelly (Matthew) Daly, Caitlin (Mike) Hassett, and Andrew Seymour.  She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her faithful companion, Squirt.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Nettie; her husband, Raymond; her son, Randy; her grandson, Joshua Daly; and her brothers and sister, Mary Cabic, Franklin Ayers, and Edward (Marion) Ayers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., from St. Mary Cathedral, 606 North Ohio Ave., Gaylord, MI 49735.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home (135 N. Center Ave., Gaylord) on Sunday, February 13, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a Rosary at the funeral home Sunday (Feb. 13) at 3:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue Monday, February 14, 2022, at St. Mary Cathedral from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Nellie will be buried in the spring at St. Mary Cemetery in Gaylord, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Library for the Blind, the Otsego County Animal Shelter, or St. Mary Cathedral.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

  3. Sorry to hear about Nellie’s passing, she was such a nice person. Nellie was one of my mother’s (Lucy Watkins) best friends, they worked at Standard Products for many, many years together. Our family has many fond memories of her, she will be missed. Please accept our condolences.

    1. My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother, Deb, Faye, and all the rest of the family. She was quite a lady, I worked with Nellie at Standard Products for many years. We always had fun together, laughing, and joking, about different things that went on in our lives. What a nice, sweet lady. She will be missed by many, she was a keeper.
