Margie Ann (Butler) Griffith, age 85, passed away on Sunday, May 22. Margie was surrounded by her loving husband and three daughters at the time of her passing.

Margie Ann Butler was born on April 9, 1937, in Bellaire, Michigan to Vernon and Vivian Butler. She graduated from Bellaire Rural Agricultural School in 1955 and attended Northwest Michigan College where she studied advanced office skills. On April 19, 1957, she married Carl E Griffith. The couple briefly resided in Lansing, Michigan, and then moved back to Bellaire, Michigan, where they resided for the rest of their lives. Margie and Carl raised three daughters – Carla, Marcell, and Mary.

Margie was a life-long member of the Bellaire Methodist Church where she participated in the choir and on many other committees. Margie worked for many years at the Bellaire State Bank, but her favorite job was working as a secretary for the Antrim County Detectives. After retiring, Margie ad Carl traveled extensively throughout North America in their RV.

Margie was a skilled seamstress and loved to create cherry-themed quilts and aprons for friends and family members. Margie was also an avid cook and baker. She was famous in her family for creating delicious strawberry shortcakes and potato salad. Margie dearly loved her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Margie was preceded in death by her father, Vernon, her mother, Vivian, her sister Linda, and her brother Dan.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; her sister, Betty of Palmer, Alaska, her daughters, Carla of Tempe, Arizona, Marcell of Las Vegas, and Mary of Las Vegas; as well as her grandchildren, Kathleen, Mike, Danny, Sarah, Margie, Dylan and Madalyn and her great-grandchildren, Tristen, Josh, Brady, Abigail, Vivian, and Olivia.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 4, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at the old Butler Barn located at 3117 South Eckhardt Road in Bellaire, Michigan.

  1. Always enjoyed running into Margie at craft shows and around town. What a great lady! May she Rest In Peace. Thinking of Carl and the family.
