Larry Russell “Jake” Haight, 56, of Grayling, passed away unexpectedly, on March 14, 2022.

He was born in Bay City, Michigan, to Larry and Ann (Yacks) Haight. The family moved to Grayling in 1967. Jake attended C.O.O.R. (Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, and Roscommon Intermediate School District) and graduated in 1991. He then went to R.O.O.C. (a workshop supporting people with disabilities to lead independent lives in their communities) where he worked until his death.

Jake was the kindest and purest of souls. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He did not talk much, but he always knew how to get his needs and wants known. He was incredibly smart and forgot NOTHING! He was always a great partner to take shopping because you never needed a shopping list. And dance, oh, could he dance! Jake loved the NCIS intro song. Each time it played he would dance till the end. He loved swimming and fishing, especially ice fishing. He would sit for hours waiting for the fish to come. He was known as the “coffee maker” of the house. He loved making it and pushed away anyone who got in his way. Those who visited always received a cup of coffee from Jake.

He loved going to R.O.O.C. every day of the week, working out in the public, and making candy runs. He loved to see his friends each day. He worked off a schedule and God help you if you messed with his schedule. He participated in Special Olympics and could not wait to paddle every summer, in the big race. There are so many beautiful memories of Jake that cannot all be listed, but if you knew him, then you knew. We were all better people just knowing him. He will be missed by family and the many friends he called family.

Jake is survived by his brother, Royal (Kristen) Haight of Grayling; nephew, Matthew; niece, Magdalene; aunts, Frieda and Vi; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann (2005), and Larry (2021).

Memorial services will be held for Jake in the spring/summer.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
