Kenneth Beaton McKenzie, 80, of Gaylord, MI, passed away on October 5, 2021.

He was born on July 9, 1941, in Detroit, MI, to George W. and Catherine (Beaton) McKenzie.

During his childhood, Ken was lucky enough to gain a second family through foster care and was honored to call Melvin and Blanch (Slingerland) Wedlake his parents.

Ken proudly served his country in the United States Navy, alongside his foster brother, Sunny. He was a true patriot and was proud to be an American.

He was a master electrician who retired from General Motors and had his own business, Mac’s Electric.

Ken loved all animals, especially his dogs, but he loved his family more. He enjoyed a good game of poker or any cards in general.  He could often be found on the river which is a tradition he passed down to his children and grandchildren. Ken loved technology and gadgets and always owned the newest and fanciest watches, knives, and flashlights.

He is survived by his children, Sherri (Kevin) Sapp, Michelle Patrick, Kellee McKenzie, Jordan McKenzie, Dawn Davis, Jenny Hadrill, and Brian Hadrill; his grandchildren, Josh (Lisa) Hendershott, Hanna Patrick, Zachary Perry, Samuel Sapp, Emily Patrick, Sydney Sapp, and Noah Farrar; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Dakota, and Eldon. Ken was also loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Becker) McKenzie; his parents and foster parents; brothers George and Larry McKenzie, and Melvin “Sunny” (Mag) Wedlake; and sisters, Blanch (Willie) London, and Florence “Flossie” Chrivia.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. at Sherri’s home, located at 217 N. Court Ave, Gaylord, MI, 49735. Friends and family may gather for visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online by following the link below Kens’s picture or to the Otsego County Animal Shelter, 256 Fairview Rd., Gaylord, MI 49735.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
