Kathy Lynn DeGroot (Heinze) 67 of Vanderbilt formerly Potterville Mi died Thursday, April 9th, 2020 at home surrounded by her children.
Kathy was born in Ingham County, MI the daughter of Ronald and Betty (Roan) Heinze. Kathy grew up in Potterville. She worked at the halfway house in Lansing as a resident manager and helped people with substance abuse. She then moved to Wolverine in 1979 where she continued to work with substance abuse as a counselor and case manager at the Otsego Memorial Substance Abuse Center. She went on to install satellite dishes and worked with her father and brothers.
She was diagnosed with MS in 87 and she studied to find out all she could about the disease. Kathy did a lot in her MS groups, Church groups, AA program, and COPD groups. Kathy also did a lot with the Gypsy ministry. She was a very caring and helpful person. Kathy would help anyone who needed it even when she had very little herself. Kathy was very active in hunting, fishing, and sports.
She is survived by her children, Chad (Crystal) White of Vanderbilt MI, Lisa (James) Whitten of Wolverine MI, Kristen (Justin) Smyth of Mio MI; 2 step Children Greg DeGroot and Robyn DeGroot Andres; grandchildren, Jessica, Eric, and Nicole White, Anthony, Noah, and Kaleb Whitten, and Theron Smyth; 7 step-grandchildren and 1 step great-grandchild; brothers Mike (Patty-Willet) Heinze of Eaton Rapids and Mark (Marsha) Heinze of Lynwood WA; 4 nieces, 2 nephews, 9 great-nieces, and 5 great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty (Roan) Heinze and Ronald Heinze, youngest brother Jeffrey Heinze and nephew Trever Heinze.
