Karl J. David

Karl Joseph David, 65 years old, died suddenly and unexpectedly when his heart stopped beating at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, on Wednesday, January 17th, 2024.

Karl was born in Flint, Michigan on February 5, 1958.  He was the oldest of six children and was preceded in death by both of his parents, Geraldine J. David, and Karl T. David.

Karl and his 6’6” body loved to live in a gym.  He made headlines with the game of basketball and went to college on a basketball scholarship.  He graduated from Madonna University with a bachelor’s in psychology.

Karl had a “people” personality.  Wherever he went he always had to know the names of everyone around him and carry on conversations.  He met the love of his life, Mary Hobbs, who lived in the Lansing, Michigan, area and shared 13 years together.  Karl dedicated the last years of his life to taking care of his mother when her health was declining, and she just recently died four months before him.

We are still in shock and in pain since he left us on this earth, but we know we will see him again.

A visitation will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home at 135 N. Center Ave., Gaylord, MI. 49735 on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Graveside services will be held in the spring of 2024.

Memorial donations may be made to the GoFundMe in Karls honor online at https://gofund.me/7982d62f.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

  1. Karl David was a lifelong friend of mine. I am deeply saddened to read of his passing. He was the closest thing to a saint that a human being could be without formal recognition by his beloved church. Yes I also believe that many will see him and his mother in Heaven. He was in his own way a great man and a fervent believer in the Lord. I hope to see him someday and have him welcome me with his usual charm and sense of humour. I can see him using the words, welcome back Mr. President!! Till then I will keep the faith always.

  2. My Big Brother! You went too fast! No time to say goodbye! Full of love and caring for everyone! Reflection of Jesus Love! You did so much for everyone!
