John Joseph Mackie, 70, of Brutus, MI, passed away Monday, August 7th, 2023, at Aspen Ridge in Gaylord, MI.
You may have known John as, “Big John”, “Ole Boy”, or just “Little Honey”.
John was born November 3rd, 1952, to Peter and Betty Mackie of Petoskey, MI.
He graduated from Petoskey High School in 1972, where he later went to work for Michigan Bell Telephone Company in December of that same year. John stayed employed with the company for 40 years, retiring in December 2013.
John enjoyed boxing, judo, and lifting weights, but his passion was truly hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors, where he planted many trees in his lifetime.
John was preceded in death by both of his parents in previous years. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Angela (Kucharek) Mackie of 28 years, 5 children, Joe and Peter of Brutus, MI., Angie and Tom of Van, Mi., and Michaela of Petoskey, MI.
He was a good dad and best friend to his stepson John Kiley of Brutus, MI., and Ginger Keiser of Pellston, MI. He has 8 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, whom he all loved dearly. John also is survived by 2 sisters, Barbara, and Patricia (Norbert) Fettig all of Petoskey, MI., 7 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on, Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at 1 pm at the Mackie family home, 3606 Brill Rd. Brutus, MI. 49716.
Pastor Scott of the Gaylord E Free Church, will be proceeding over the service. There will be a tree planted in honor of John, with a luncheon to follow.

Rest in peace John. I remember growing up with you and your family when you lived in River Rd. In Petoskey . You will be remembered and missed by many !
