Clara (Wojtkowiak) Janik of Gaylord, MI, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.

Clara was born to Anthony and Apolonia Wojtkowiak on June 18, 1918 in Gaylord, MI in a tiny log house that still remains on McCoy Rd. and was the youngest of 9 children. Living a simple life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she touched many lives as a sweet and loving person who had a deep devotion and love for the Lord Jesus and the Blessed Mother. Her prayers were very powerful and she remembered countless people living and deceased. The list was long and not written on paper but rather in her heart. After being a kidney cancer survivor at the age of 49, she promised Our Lord and Blessed Mother she would say a rosary every day of her remaining life. She kept her promise and added more rosaries, litanies, novenas and prayers daily. We thank God for our prayer warrior and are grateful for the much needed prayers for family, friends, country and world. In addition, she prayed for an end to abortion, for conversion back to faith and family and for priests, who were at the top of her list. What a wonderful and saintly person. Clara was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Cathedral parish her entire life. We believe Clara is in heaven with our Lord Jesus and will continue praying and interceding for us. We love you and will miss you dearly but being home with Jesus, our Blessed Mother, Daddy and the rest of your family and friends is now your eternal reward.

Clara Married Theodore F. Janik on May 9, 1942 who preceded her in death on February 13, 1976. She is also preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. Clara is survived by her daughters: Carolyn (John) Kosiara of Lapeer and Rosalie (Joseph) Makarewicz of Gaylord, 6 Grandchildren: Yvonne (Gerald) Prill of Bad Axe, Kevin (Tina) Makarewicz of Gaylord, Mark Kosiara of Houston, TX, Renee (Shannon) Olstrom of Harrison, Terry (Jody) Kosiara of Davison and Brian. Also survived are 8 Great Grandchildren: Mackenzie Prill, Matthew Makarewicz, Tadziu Kosiara, Natalie Olstrom, Lauren Prill, Andrew Makarewicz, Edziu Kosiara and Sydney Prill.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, from 3PM to 8PM at Nelson Funeral Home with a rosary service beginning at 6:30PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral on Saturday, July 15 at 10AM, with visitation beginning at 9AM.

Donations in Clara’s memory may be made to St. Mary Cemetery Endowment Fund.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
