Janette Marie (Roy) Kwapis, 80, died Sunday, February 9, 2020.

She was born in Detroit to Henry Joseph and Elizabeth Alice (Drouillard) Roy on October 26, 1939.  She spent her whole life in Michigan, raising her children in Dearborn Heights and retiring to Johannesburg with her husband, Val.

Devoted to her family, Janette was talented at sewing, painting, and creating a calm and peaceful home.  Spanning five decades, Jan devoted countless hours to serving the people of St. Mel’s (Dearborn Heights) and St. Francis of Assisi (Lewiston) through her ministry to the church.  In May of 1999, Janette entered the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order (Third Order). Janette was patient, empathetic, accepting of others, and filled with grace.

Jan is survived by her loving children, David (Beth), Daniel (Brenda), Dennis, and Lanette (Michael); sisters, Geraldine (Bill) Schma and Louise Roy; nine cherished grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Valentine Kwapis; parents, Henry and Elizabeth Roy; and in-laws Joseph and Dorothy Kwapis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Francis Church in Lewiston.

Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., concluding with a Rosary at 8:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue Monday, February 17, 2020, at St. Francis Church in Lewiston, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
