George Henry Marchand, 87, of Gaylord, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

George was born to George and Magdalen (Peters) Marchand, on December 19, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1963, he married Norma (Kebbe) Marchand, and they celebrated 57 years of marriage together prior to her passing in 2021. They moved to Gaylord 20 years ago and enjoyed many years of retirement. George especially loved taking care of the property, fishing, camping and following politics. A man who always put his family first, he was a constant provider and protector. Whether as the breadwinner or the patriarch, he devoted his entire life to his family. George was a retired deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and retired from Auto Alliance in Flat Rock, Michigan.

George is survived by his children: Paul Marchand of Eastpointe, Mike Marchand of Vanderbilt, Sally Hoedel (Joe) of Traverse City, and John Marchand (Rebecca) of Berkley; and eight grandchildren: Valerie, Ian, Hope, June, Tess, Jillian, J.J. and Megan; as well as his great-granddaughter Violet.

George and Norma were preceded in death by their daughter, Molly Marchand.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

So sorry to hear of George’s passing. He was my parents, next-door neighbor, in Detroit way back in the 70s and 80s. RIP George and Norma.
