Florence Mary Rusniak, 84-year-old mother of three, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at McReynolds Hall nursing home in Gaylord, MI.

She was born on June 11, 1938, to Thaddeus and Catherine Babinski. A lifelong resident of the great state of Michigan, she was born and raised in Hamtramck, MI.

On October 19, 1957, she married Richard Anthony Rusniak. She moved to Gaylord with her husband in 1992. Together they raised two daughters, Diane and Karen, and one son, David.

She was a homemaker and had a passion for old classic movies. Florence was also known as “the master of the polka” on the dance floor. She also enjoyed gardening and camping and knitting always kept her busy. Florence also loved baking and could make the most incredible pies.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and her daughter, Diane Sevenski of Elmira, MI.

She is survived by her son, David (Shawn) Rusniak, of Traverse City, MI; her daughter, Karen Rusniak, of Alanson, MI; four grandchildren, Matthew (Ruth), Adam, Brian (Magen), and Brandon; and four great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Nathan, Riley, and Olivia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at St. Mary Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Otsego County Animal Shelter at 256 Fairview Rd., Gaylord, MI 49735, the American Heart Association online at heart.org/donate, or the Parkinson’s Research Center online at https://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org.
