It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Joel Tanner.
David went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, with his family by his side.
He was born into this life in Monroe, Michigan, on March 30, 1952, to George and Estelle Tanner. David comes from a large family of 11 siblings, five brothers, and six sisters.
David was truly the life of the party and the center of attention. He loved to sing and spend time with his family. If there was any social function going on and Dave was there, and you’d soon hear him singing country and especially gospel.
He met the love of his life, Kathy in 1986, at; you guessed it, a hoe down in Detroit Michigan. They married in 1999.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and five of his siblings, Ray Tanner, Peggy Bevins, Susa Studdard, Roger Tanner, and Algienon Tanner.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Shane (Fawn) Tanner, Bret (Lisa Bruce Gausden, and Kelli (Jereme) Goacher; grandchildren, Blake, Savanah, Skyler, Conner, Kiley, and Brennan; siblings, Betty Sutton, Guery (Sandy) Tanner, Gale Murphy, Eddie (Kay) Tanner, Brenda (Joe) Villarreal and Gloria Tanner; and many nieces and nephews.
He will truly be missed by his family and many friends. Sing high with the Angels Dave!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Otsego County Animal Shelter at 256 Fairview Rd., Gaylord, MI 49735
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Kathy and Family,Although I have never met you or Dave, it didn’t take long to be friends on the Pogo Games Website with you where we shared our love of bowling and entering many tournaments there.I will never forget how kind you were when talking with My (now late) Mom and myself.Just know that my thoughts and prayers (including a virtual hug ) are with you at this most difficult time. R.I.P. Dave
I don’t even know how to begin with how much uncle Dave meant to us, to Jeremy and myself he was like a Father and to JJ he was like grandpa, our last visit was for Jeremy’s birthday and even though he was feeling well he still made us laugh with his stories, had Jeremy doing some work (which Jeremy enjoyed doing) and letting JJ play his guitar in teaching him the word of God. We love and miss him so much it hurts and it’s hard to imagine not getting my biscuits and gravy when we go up to visit. 💗
Dear Dave, you will be sadly missed by many we’re always a great friend and the life of the party. I thank you all for letting me be a part of your lives, all your fun parties, and your beautiful voice until we meet again my friend may you rest in 🕊️❤️🤗 love always and forever.
I am very sorry to hear of David’s passing. He was always such a warm, happy person who enjoyed life immensely. Kendall & I send our deepest sympathy.
Gone but not forgotten 😭 R.I.P. See ya on the flip side Daybed.
Dave was an amazing person with a big heart. He loved life and was loved by so many. He loved to sing and had the voice of an angel. Or hearts and prayers go out to Kathy and the Tanner family. Dave, you were more than just a friend you were family. We will forever cherish the memories that have been made through the years. Until we meet again, love Teresa and Bill.
Loved this guy, was good to everyone and would do anything for you. Roger and I will miss him dearly. The last couple of years haven’t been good for any of us, we didn’t get together enough. Get them angles singing Dave.❤️❤️
There are no words to express how deep this loss is except to say there is definitely a void now. I miss you terribly and I will until we meet again in Heaven. I am sure that you are singing loud with loved ones who have passed. You are in no pain now and I’m thankful for that. You were truly one of a kind and very special to everyone who was fortunate enough to know you. Our hearts are broken but only for awhile. We’ll be seeing you soon. Love you so much. Nadene
Dave I’m so glad we made it up north to see you and Kathy. Had a great visit. Will miss you dearly. You I’m sure have entered into the great choir in the sky. See you on the other side.
Dad I love and miss you so much I’m glad I was able to get the kids up to see you before you got too sick. Wish you could sing for us one more time.
