After 30 long years of battling Lupus, and fighting for his earthly life, David finally sent out his own personal SOS call.
In the early morning of February 20, 2023, Our Lord reached for David’s hand, gently took it into His own, and led him home, down the path David told us he saw. His last breath on earth was his first breath in Heaven.
David George Puroll, 59, was the sixth child born to Edmund and Leanor Puroll, on July 25, 1963. He was a wonderful son and brother to 12 siblings. He was a loving and honorable husband to Pamela (O’Neil), since April 25, 1987. He was a tender, yet strong, father to Matthew and Paige. He was an uncle, cousin, and good friend to many. Just an overall great family man.
Being a true patriot, he enlisted in the United States Army and became a Private First Class. He trained in Korea and was then stationed in Hawaii, where he worked as a generator mechanic.
Since boyhood, he was an avid ‘tinkerer’ of all things. He tore apart everything to see how it worked. It was only natural that his life’s work would be in the industrial maintenance field, working on big machinery.
Dave’s great love for the outdoors would lead him to fishing, hunting, camping, and mushrooming; but most of all, planting. His love showed in his many gardens and his meticulously landscaped lawns filled with roses, bushes, berries, flowers, bird baths and feeders (for all ‘his’ birds), beautiful orchards of 42 fruit trees, and his pudding stones. His love showed in the many family trips to their cabin in the Upper Peninsula. Many adventures made sweet family memories. He rested his head many nights at that cabin.
We will forever yearn for his incredible sense of humor and quick wit, that kept us in stitches. He made us laugh and laugh hard. He brought everyone great joy through laughter. That was Dave. He was a true pip!
He will be sadly missed by many since he was deeply loved by many.
David is survived by his wife, Pamela Puroll; son, Matthew Puroll; mother, Leanor Puroll; siblings, Jeanne and Chris Polak, Mark and Karen Puroll, Debra Puroll, Diane and Bud Jaroniewski, John and Kellie Puroll, Andrew and Gina Puroll, Jeff and Mindy Puroll, Kathy Puroll, Kerry and Tim Lear, Becky and Mike O’Neil, Scott and Kristin Puroll; father- and mother-in-law, Keith and Harriet O’Neil; brothers-in-law, Brian O’Neil and Randy, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Puroll; father, Edmund Puroll; brother, Frank Puroll; sister, Brenda Puroll; niece, Lauren Puroll; and nephew, Connor Puroll.
We will mourn his passing and celebrate his life with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Elmira, with Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held directly following the service, at the Elmira Fire Department.
Please send cards of condolence to Pamela Puroll, through the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI, 49734.
A special thank you to the Nelson Funeral Home for the tender care of our beloved David.
