Daniel (Dan) Delane Moore, age 67, passed away at his home in Vanderbilt, MI, on November 13, 2020.

He was born in Muskegon, MI, on May 29, 1953 to Kenneth E. and Betty A. (Forman) Moore. As a child, Dan and his family moved to Vanderbilt, where he graduated from Vanderbilt Area Schools

In 1975, Dan married Elizabeth Ann (Rochester) Moore and together they had 4 children, Jessica, Mary, Daniel, and Stephanie.

Dan was a respected scout master for the Boy Scouts of America. He was very proud of his long history of working with special needs children and partnering with the Special Olympics. Dan worked with adult foster care for many years and very much enjoyed all the work he did and relationships he made.

He was a well-known hunter, trapper, and coon dog trainer. Dan loved camping and all the outdoor activities Northern Michigan has to offer, especially mushroom picking, sightseeing, etc.

Dan was a devout Christian and for years he and his family raised spirits in the local nursing home by singing Christian and gospel music for the residents.

He had an amazing sense of humor and loved to see people laugh. Dan would make up silly songs and sing them loud and proud and would play songs such as Home-Grown Tomatoes. He was a practical joker. But most of all, Dan was a simple man who enjoyed time spent with his family more than anything.

Dan is survived by his children, Jessica (Dan Stocker) Moore, Mary (Mark) Vantol, Daniel E. (Christina) Moore, and Stephanie (John) Moore; grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Elizabeth, Adrianna, Hanna Jo, Daniel R., Kelseyana, and Howard; great-grandchildren, Kennady and Jaxson; and Jake and Jeff, children of his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Betty; and his loving wife, Elizabeth.

Due to COVID-19 protocol, the family will be having a private service at the Nelson Funeral Home on November 20, 2020, which will be live-streamed on the Nelson Funeral Home Facebook Page starting at 1:00 p.m. There will be a procession, open to the public, from the Nelson Funeral Home to Evergreen Hill Cemetery, in Vanderbilt. Please be at the Nelson Funeral Home by 1:30 to join us.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Nelson Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, Mi. 49734.

Last spring we lost our dog unexpectedly.
Mr. Moore found out our daughters loved morel mushrooms & sent over a large bag of them to lift our spirits. He had a huge, kind heart. He also raised one of the best guys we know, Danny Jr. We are so sorry for your loss, Danny. No doubt he will always walk by your side🙏🏼

I know I haven’t kept in touch since I moved to Grayling 5 yrs ago. We had many great talks, camping trips, and hunting trips. I recently saw the pics of you, Jill, and I setting blinds up in the Pigeon, for hunting season, about 6 yrs ago. They made me smile and think of you. Grateful to have those memories with ya bud. R.I.P and I will see ya in the big place in the sky. Take those deer up in the great hunt in the sky buddy. Glad you are reunited with your wife up there. So sorry for your loss Jessica, Mary, Danny, Stephanie, and all the grandkids. You are all in my prayers.

Dan we are so sad you are gone, but so happy you are with Liz, again. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

  7. Dan, your big heart and generosity will be sorely missed by all who knew you and by those for whom you have cared through the years. Thank you for all you did for your ‘guys’; they were so blessed to have you in their lives and to have fished, camped and picked mushrooms in your beloved Pigeon State Country Forest. Rest in peace, and God bless you for all you have done for others.
