Adeline Ashley, 95, of Vanderbilt, Michigan, passed away at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, Michigan, on March 14, 2024.

Adeline was born in Hudson Township, Michigan, on March 31, 1928, to Arthur and Ruth Ann (Lewis) Guerin. She was raised and spent her entire life in Vanderbilt and Gaylord. On March 20, 1947, she married Elmer Ashley. Together they raised four children: Duane, Gary, Douglas, and Sandra.

During her early working life, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Otsego Memorial Hospital. She then worked in the meat department at Glen’s Markets in Gaylord until her retirement in 1985.

In her free time, Adeline cherished her travels with Elmer, and they were able to visit Hawaii, Alaska, and most of the continental United States, with only a few northeastern states eluding them. She also famously enjoyed word search puzzles, playing card games, and attending local country music shows. She was also the “official” family supervisor for all events, large and small.

Adeline is survived by her son, Duane (Toni) Ashley of Vanderbilt; daughter-in-law, Lynne, of Midland; son-in-law, Robert Rolinski, of Dundee; and daughter-in-law, Jan (Mike) Norton of Dunnellon, Florida. Her youngest sister, Marlene Guerin of Vanderbilt also survives. She cherished her living grandchildren, Vanessa (Shawn) Hutton, Richard (Becky) Ashley, Shawn (Julie) Ashley, Holly Wilt, Heather (Greg) Green, Keetah Frank, Kristie (Ben) Ellison, Kari (Philip) Miles, Angela Deranleau, Tammie (Jason) Boadway, Gary (Stephanie) Ashley, Laura (Dustin) Mapes, Amy (Adam) Peil; and thirty-one great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; sons, Roger, Douglas, and Gary; daughter, Sandra; sisters, Emily, Eleanor, Frida, and Almina; grandson, Troy; and daughter-in-law, Frances.

A celebration of Adeline’s life will be held at Nelsons Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., with public visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Otsego Memorial Hospital Foundation online at https://www.munsonhealthcare.org/munson-healthcare-foundations/areas-you-can-support/otsego-memorial-hospital/otsego-memorial-hospital or the American Cancer Society online at https://www.cancer.org/.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Nelsons Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

  4. At least once a month, I’d see and get a chance to gab with the Ashley’s, Elmer, Adeline, Duane and his wife in the “waiting room”. It was time to catch up on what was going on in each of our lives and what was happening up north in Vanderbilt. Over the years we watch each other move a little slower, talk about aches pains and family. Duane if you haven’t figured it out yet it’s Tom Wagar, I’m very sad to hear about your mom. The two of you took great care of your parents, it wasn’t hard to see just how much you cared, so don’t be too sad, I’m very sure Elmer and Adeline could not have done it without you there, good job. Stay strong, Tom Wagar

  9. Duane and Toni- I am so sad to hear about the passing of Adeline. My heart goes out to you and the family. When I married Willy, Adeline and Elmer were one of the first to extended a hand to me and welcomed me to the family. They were also there when I lost Willy in 2012. I loved them dearly and I’m sorry I can’t be there today. Please know I am there in spirit. Love you guys! XOXO

This woman left such a mark on my heart as I got to know her and Elmer over the years. Many years after meeting them, I became pregnant with a baby girl. While name searching I knew instantly that Adeline would be her name.

Her legacy will be carried on by all of her loving family, but also this little girl that she never even met, but will carry a piece of her with her for life.

Cheers to Adeline and all the love you spread throughout this world! Enjoy being reunited with Elmer!

I’m so sorry for your family’s loss, but know how much both Adeline and Elmer touched lives all over!

❤️❤️Adeline, I will always remember you!
