Kathryn Renee “Kathy” Rautio, age 59, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2019, in Gaylord, Michigan.  Kathy was born in Gaylord, Michigan, on July 21, 1960, to Charles and Joy (Hutchins) Rautio.

Kathy attended Gaylord Community Schools where she excelled as a student.  Kathy enjoyed her time on the high school ski team along with performing with the Gaylord High School band.  Growing up in Gaylord, Kathy took pleasure in swimming, snowmobiling, skiing, and camping with her family.

Following her graduation from Gaylord Community Schools in 1978, Kathy attended Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.  With student loans, Kathy immediately went to work in Minneapolis for several years, where she learned the ropes of the securities industry.  She moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and hired on to work with Captec, eventually moving to Orlando, Florida to work with CNL.  Kathy concluded her career with Triloma Securities, as their National Accounts Manager.  Throughout her successful career, Kathy received many awards and recognitions.  Kathy retired on August 12, 2019, after 35 years in the securities industry.

She loved and cherished her home in Orlando, especially relaxing on her expansive front porch.  Kathy enjoyed hosting people in her home.  She was always ready to share her success with family and friends. Kathy’s door was always open.  Kathy’s love of travel began when she visited Finland on her own, at age 13.  Throughout her lifetime, she was able to see the world, traveling for work and pleasure.  Kathy will be remembered for her heartfelt generosity, continuing after her death with being an organ donor.

Left to honor Kathy and her love, are her father, Charles W. Rautio; a brother, Jeff; nephew, Alex; niece, Kathryn “Kati”; cousins and extended family in Finland.

Her mother Joy preceded Kathy in death in 2017.  Many friends will have a void in their lives with Kathy’s passing.

Visitation for Kathy will be held at Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, Michigan on Monday, August 19, 2019. Family, friends, and others whose lives Kathy touched are invited to visit from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Kathy’s funeral will take place at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the Evangelical Free Church in Gaylord with Reverend Jim Mathis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s name may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
