Judy R. Nizzola was born on October 22, 1927, in Hamtramck, MI, and passed away on December 30, 2020, in Gaylord, MI.

Judy will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her love of life, and her endearing smile.

She was a graduate of Central Michigan University, and began her teaching career on Harsens Island before moving to Pointe Tremble in Algonac, and eventually to Gaylord, in 1967.  For the majority of her career, she taught second and third graders, at South Maple Elementary School in Gaylord.

Judy was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary Cathedral parish in Gaylord.  She volunteered on several missions to Haiti, to build a school. She also traveled to Rome and the Holy Land.

She was a Shaklee distributor and a volunteer for the Conservation Center.

More than anything, Judy loved to spend time with friends and family. Whether it was a cup of tea and raspberry pie at the Sugar Bowl, breakfast at the Big Boy with the guys on their way up north, downhill skiing with friends, a girls weekend in Algonac, or at a church social event, you were sure to find Judy at the center of a crowd.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ines (Manzoni) Nizzola; step-father, Joseph Fenos; brother, Charles Nizzola; sister-in-law, Frances Nizzola; and her great-nephew, Orval Blaine Hutchinson.

She is survived by her nieces, Eustace Nizzola and Ines (Larry) Nizzola-Ware; nephews, Carl (Kathleen) Nizzola, Alex Nizzola, Edward (Sandra) Nizzola, and Thomas Nizzola; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held on June 26, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow the Mass, at Fairview Cemetery, located at the corner of Morgan and Fairview Roads, Gaylord, MI.  Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at BJ’s Restaurant, 990 N. Center Ave, Gaylord, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Cathedral online through WeShare at https://stmarycathedralnlcc.weshareonline.org/.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
