Jeanette Emily Damer went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 4, 2020.

Jeanette was born on September 22, 1946, in Detroit.  She was a beautiful singer and an accomplished performer, delighting audiences as a prodigious soprano, she performed at major venues, throughout her childhood, in Detroit.

Her calling was helping others, however, so much so that she pursued a career in therapy.  Jeanette received her Bachelor of Science degree from Lake Superior State University and her Master of Counseling degree from Spring Arbor University.  She was proud to open her own practice, “Healing Thoughts” as it enabled her to help so many.

Jeanette was most passionate in her faith; she was deeply devoted to Jesus Christ.  She had other interests she held dear as well. She loved watching her Detroit Tigers baseball games, listening to Christian music, and Classic Rock.  She was a muscle car enthusiast who held a surprising amount of knowledge on the subject.  Those are just a few of the things she held dear.  But nothing could outshine the love she had for her family.

Jeanette is survived by her three daughters; Penny (Joseph) O’Rourke, Donna (Mitchell) Bett, and Karen Damer; three granddaughters; Nicolle (Larry) Stone, Brittany O’Rourke, and Bailey Bett; three great-granddaughters; Eden, Briley, and Paiden Stone; her sister Lynne Hermanson, and her brothers; Ross (Susan), Jerry (Kay), and Paul (Sue) Lohrber, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  One such dear friend, Helen Smith, was and continues to be a blessing to Jeanette and her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jeanette’s name to the Otsego County Animal Shelter or an animal charity near you.

Arrangements entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

  5. I just found out about my dear friends’ passing. I am so sorry for her loved ones and my heart goes out to each of you. Her and I had many many laughs and even tears. She was a true friend and my counselor when she lived in Lebanon, Mo. I miss the times we used to have. God Bless you all.
