Frances Athan, passed away early in the morning on November 21, 2019, at her residence in Gaylord, MI. She was 95 years of age.
Frances was born on Friday, July 25, 1924, in Remus, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Walburga (Schropp) Snider.
Being a busybody, she made a career in the janitorial and residential painting industry to provide for her family. After retiring, she was a nomad, visiting family and friends. In her later years, she made Gaylord her permanent residence, though she still enjoyed traveling for gatherings.
Frances was a God-loving woman who enjoyed the company of family and friends. She never passed on a chance to travel anywhere or visit anyone. She always had a lesson to teach and loved to share her knowledge. When asked, she had plenty of stories of her adventures, including how she worked on plane engines during World War II. She had many hobbies, among them, were; fishing, sewing, playing cards, talking on the phone, painting, learning to read, bingo, puzzles, and puzzle games.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Loretta), Ada, Diane, Gary (Jeff), and Brenda; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lavina, Martin, Elizabeth, Margaret, Gertrude, Albert, Joseph and Mary; children, Gertrude, George, and Jerry; and granddaughter, Jacqueline.

My condolences to the family. My heart is broken but it is also rejoicing because aunt Frances has made heaven her home. I miss you already aunt Frances. Until we see each other again. I love you!
My deepest sympathy to all of Frances’s children. She was the most kind and caring person anyone could meet. She took very good care of me in my younger days back in Dearborn and Belleville and I will always remember and cherish that. May she R.I.P. she will be missed.
I knew (Aunt) Frances (even though we are not related) for many years – since I was a kid. I am now 46. She would come to our house and take us fishing. She LOVED to fish! She had a lot of stories and most ended with a moral – usually to be good to your mom and dad and to always be thankful. I am definitely very thankful to have known her. I have three beautiful quilts made by her. One from when I was a kid, one for my husband and I when we got married, and one for my firstborn (Amanda). We got to see her this summer and I am very grateful for that. She will definitely be missed. My condolences go out to her family. She was a great woman!
