Alice (Adella) Marie Estelle, age 103, of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Otsego Memorial Hospital.

Alice was born December 10, 1914, in Vilnius, Lithuania, to Charles and Marie Buragas. Alice immigrated to the United States at the age of three along with her mother and sister, Eayvega, where they joined her father who worked in the lumber camps in the Mancelona area. She graduated from Gaylord High School in 1934. On April 27, 1935, she married Arthur E. Estelle, and they operated a farm for the next 45 years seven miles west of Gaylord. She retired from Standard Products Company in 1979 after 36 years there. Arthur retired from farming and they spent winters in Lakeland, Florida. Arthur preceded her in death on March 23, 2006 after 70 years together. After his passing, she stayed in Florida near her daughter for two years, then returned to Gaylord, making her home with her son and spending the past three years at the Brook in Gaylord.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Shirley Bernard of Lakeland, Florida, son Edwin A. (Judi) of Elmira, MI; grandchildren, Gordon H. Campbell (Jerri) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Dawn Estelle of Salem, Oregon, Tanya Estelle of Elmira, MI, Anna (Bobby) Jarvis of Friendswood, Texas, and Edwin J.A. (Jay) Estelle of Elmira, MI. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Autumn Campbell, Yukon, Winter, Magnum, and Ruger Vinecki, Bowdy, Bailey, and Tucker Jarvis, and Keigen, Kinley, and Annika Dandeneau; and great-great-grandchildren Hudson and Austin.

There will be no services at this time. Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in the Spring.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI.

  3. I was saddened to hear that Alice had passed away. She was one the first residents to welcome my mom, Vernah, when we moved her to The Brook. Alice was always beautifully dressed as she made her daily walk through the the hallways. She was a beautiful soul inside and out. Rest In Peace dear Alice.

She loved to win, but was always first to share her prize…… most often “Werther’s”!!! I will remember her beautiful smile that kept my heart warm between visits. God bless.
