Edward Munger, age 59, died peacefully at his home Saturday, May 4, 2019. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on June 12, 1959.

Ed was in the United States Army from 1977 through 1985.  One assignment during that time took him to Italy and he was able to coach and play on an Italian football league, a sport that was dear to his heart.

After Ed returned home he worked as a Police Officer for the Bridgeport PD. Later, he completed the DNR Law Enforcement Academy and received his MCOLES certification.   He was with the DNR from 1989 – 2004.  He spent time in Saginaw County, Missaukee County, and Otsego County.   Ed had a passion for training and being outdoors, the DNR provided both of these opportunities to him.

Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  He enjoyed training his dogs for bird hunting.  Ed enjoyed working out and the martial arts.  He was a member of the NRA and a member of the Northland Sportsman’s Club.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Cindy Franckowiak; son, Joshua Munger; stepdaughter, Noni Parker; brother, Ralph (Kathy) Munger; sister, Dawn (Bruce) Munger; two nieces Casey (Aaron) Dunham, Johanna (Jason) Vanderwall; and one great nephew, Tys Vanderwall.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 10, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and following the service until 7:00 p.m.

  1. Ed was a great friend and mentor to my husband many years ago. He was a good man who we both respected, but, unfortunately, we lost touch with him. May he rest in peace. We pray for his family and the entire Munger family. You are very special people and you hold a special place in our hearts.

  3. So sorry to hear about the passing of Ed. Fun memories in Frankenmuth with Aunt Vi and Uncle Mel and their kids when we were young. Prayers going out for all who are mourning.

  4. It is never easy losing a loved one. Our heartfelt condolences to Cindy, Josh, Ralph/Kathy, Dawn/Bruce and the rest of the family and friends. Ed was my best friend all the way through High School. Quick with humor, support, and encouragement. I am pretty sure his mother told me that Ed’s middle name was “Mischievous” as he had a sparkle in his eyes looking for the next adventure. He always seemed to bring a smile to the face of those he interacted with. In 1977 we both were ready to go into law enforcement to serve and protect, Ed went to the military first and I went to college then Texas.

Sadly we grew distant post HS Graduation, but memories of him always brought a smile. Thankfully, our 40th HS Reunion was in 2017 and we were able to reconnect. Talking with him on the phone during the last 1 1/2 years has again been entertaining and filled great memories. Working as buss-boys at Candlelight Bowling, hunting/fishing, getting stuck in the snow, lectures and encouragement from parents…many good times. Ed always loved his little sister Dawn (awesome sister;-) and always respected and looked up to his big brother Ralph whom Ed said he wished he could be more like.

During the past six months, Ed mentioned some health issues, but we had hoped for many more years of getting reacquainted. Not trying to preach, but a couple verses have helped me during the loss of friends and family and I offer them here in hopes they will also give some comfort and peace to others.

Matthew 3:5 Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart all ye that hope in the Lord.

    With sincere and heartfelt sympathy,

    David Black

What a special family the Munger’s are. As we approach mother’s day I can only imagine what a special mother they had and how proud she must have been of her “kids”. Our love to all. Don and Kay Bradford
