Claude (Bud) Smith, 76 years old, passed away from heart failure in his home on Friday, November 16, 2018 after a long struggle with heart related issues.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon, their 4 children, Cindy Kirsten (Bill), Debbie Mason (Tom), Nick Smith (Jen) & Robert Smith (Heather) & 7 grandchildren, Jacob, Luke, Tyler, Ally, Dylan, Wiley & Ella.

Bud grew up in Wayne, MI and graduated from Wayne Memorial High school.  After high school he served 4 years in the Army and upon his return from service he attended and graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. He worked for 31 years with the U.S. Treasury.  Upon his retirement he moved north to Gaylord, MI with his loving wife, and he loved it here until the day he died.

He was a loving husband and father who would do anything for his family.  He loved fishing, bowling and hunting.  He often reminisced on the memories of hunting with his sons Robert and Nick.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Cathedral with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am.  A rosary will begin at 10:45.  He will be laid to rest in the spring at Big Bay cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, through the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, PO Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49735.
