Billy G. Walls

Bill Walls, loving husband & father passed away January 1, 2019, at the age of 86. Bill was born April 19, 1932 in Gadsden, Alabama, to David & Lois (Benefield) Walls.

He enlisted in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He served proudly with the 8th Army Rangers, the first Rangers in Korea. He was awarded a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Betty Vickrey on November 10, 1961. He had five children Tom, Tracy, Heather, Billy, & Erin.

Bill enjoyed wood carving and was happy to share his “hummingbirds” with everyone. He also forged knives of all sorts.

He was a 30 year member of the Carpenters Union working as a supervisor of custom home construction. He retired in 1991, and moved to Michigan where he enjoyed his hobbies and looked forward to reunions with his Ranger Company.

He was preceded in death by his father David, his mother Lois, two brothers David and Charles, two brothers-in-law Bob & Jim, and grandson Byron.

He is survived by his children Tom, Tracy, Heather, Billy (Kristi), & Erin. Six grandchildren, Joe (Jenny), Travis, Nick (Brittney), Chelsea, Mike & Katie. Three great-grandchildren, Ethan, McKennah & Mia. A loving sister Gail, sisters-in-law Bobbie, Barb (Jim), Audrey & numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held January 9, at 2:00 pm with a memorial to follow at 3:00 pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N. Center Ave., Gaylord, MI 49735.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Organization for Autism Research, 2000 N. 14th St., Suite 300, Arlington VA 22201.

    The staff of the Otsego County Library will treasure the beautiful carvings that he gave to each of us. We are so sorry for your loss.
