Print Obituary Send Flowers Lake, Sr., George Obituary

George Arnold Lake, Sr. age 80 of Gaylord, MI and Brownsville, TX passed away on November 21, 2016 in Brownsville, TX. George loved wintering in Brownsville with his wife and his four legged “kids” Susie and Lady.

George was born In Pontiac, MI on March 20, 1936 to Carl and Beatrice (Lawson) Lake. On November 2, 1957 he married the love of his life, Pearl Hammond. His love and devotion to his beloved wife has been such a strong example to his family. Every young man in the family has been given the stern look, straight in the eye, when he said, “you better treat your woman right!” His concern for Pearl was always his top priority and even in his illness he wasn’t concerned about himself but his one and only true love, Pearl.

George was a gentle man with much wisdom. He had a servant heart and took great delight in being a handyman assisting the elderly and anyone in need, friend or stranger! He always had a willing heart and helping hand. He was involved in his children and grandchildren’s activities. He coached Gaylord Little League for over 20 years! With his wife he built five houses and also became the “supervisor” over many projects when his adult children/grandchildren needed his guidance on a project! Family was his pride and joy and teaching the grandkids to fish, golf or swing a hammer always brought him deep joy. The many camping trips and s’mores around the campfire were always special and the kids all knew that the burned marshmallows went to grandpa. He would eat every single burned one until the perfect marshmallow was roasted for the kids to enjoy! He worked as the Director of Maintenance at Otsego Memorial Hospital where he retired after 37 ½ years of service. He was very active at the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church where he was a lifelong member. He lived his life modeling the love and servant heart of his Lord and Savior. He served so humbly and his legacy will live on forever.

George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Pearl; his children, Natalie (Terry) Cottle, George (Dedra) Lake, Jr., Linda (Lyle) Dowling, John (Jan) Lake; grandchildren, Chris (Deb) Cottle, Curtis (Mallory) Cottle, Tyler (Samantha Baker) Cottle, Jonathan (Heather) Lake, Matthew (Amber Pytlowany) Lake, Vanessa (Mike) Mushlock, Katie (Wes) Dipzinski, Daniel (Jennifer) Dowling, Joshua (Mary) Dowling, Sean (Belle ) Dowling, Ryan (Sarah) Lake, Kellie (Martin) Herrera; seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ronald Edwards, Ida Boughner, Ernest “Bud” Edwards, Richard and Charles Lake and Carl Lake, Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1 PM from the Christ Church of the Valley, 2900 Dr. Hugh Emerson, Brownsville, TX, with Pastor John Phillips officiating.

Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 12 noon until the time of service.

To my friends.. Pearl, George, Natalie, Linda & John. My heart and prayers are with you all and your families. I understand the loss you feel but I know that George left us all for his home coming! We all know what a blessing that is to know that He is with his family and friends. I learned something from Pastor Jim a long time ago and remember it so well and it got me through the loss of my Gary... "his last breath on earth is his first breath in heaven!" George will always be in our hearts and never far from our minds. You all will continue to be in my prayers.. sending love to you all.. God bless you.
