History of Nelson's Funeral Home
Nelson Funeral Home of Gaylord Michigan is an independent family owned funeral home, established in 1965 by H. Charles Nelson. After working in the Detroit area for many years, Mr. Nelson purchased a family residence on the corner of Mitchell Street and Court Street in Gaylord, Michigan. The home was restored and remodeled several times to accommodate the growth of the business.
In 1974 Mr. Nelson and his wife Patricia purchased the Walker-Bates Funeral Home on Center Street, just north of Main Street. The businesses were managed at separate locations until 1977 when the Nelson establishment was closed. The consolidation was then known as the Nelson Funeral Home, Walker-Bates Chapel.
Currently known as the, Nelson Funeral Home, Inc., remodeling and redecorating has taken place several times at the 100-year-old Gaylord location in the past 47 years of Nelson ownership.
